The journey is the destination: What type of rider are you?
Before delving into technical details such as watt-hours or torque, you should ask yourself a simple question: Where will I mostly ride?
-
The Urban Commuter: If you want to leave the car at home for commuting or shopping, a city e-bike is ideal. It offers comfort, an upright riding position, and is often already equipped with mudguards and luggage racks.
-
The Adventurer: Do you love long weekend tours and forest paths? Then a trekking e-bike is your perfect companion. It is robust, versatile, and designed for long range.
-
The Off-road Fan: For steep climbs and rough terrain, there's no getting around an e-mountain bike (E-MTB) . Here, suspension and motor power are key.
What to look for in the motor and battery
In Germany, mid-mounted motors are particularly popular. They offer the most natural center of gravity and the safest riding experience.
When it comes to the battery, more is not always better. For city riding, 400Wh to 500Wh is often perfectly sufficient. However, if you are planning alpine tours, you should opt for 625Wh or more.
Safety and Components
A premium e-bike is recognized by its details. Pay attention to hydraulic disc brakes – they provide the necessary deceleration, even in wet conditions and at higher speeds. Good lighting (StVZO-compliant!) is not only mandatory in Germany but also a lifesaver.
